Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match at Ole Miss, 4-3

The doubles point proved to be the key to Friday's women's tennis match for Florida, which dropped the opening point of the dual match en route to a tough 4-3 loss to Ole Miss at the Palmer-Salloum Tennis Center.

Ole Miss (9-5, 2-3 SEC) came out quickly and captured the doubles decisions on courts No. 1 and No. 3, with Florida (9-6, 3-2 SEC) earning the win on court No. 2.

The Lady Rebels continued that momentum on the singles court, where they took victories on courts No. 5 and 6 before Anastasia Revzina got Florida on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 won at the No. 2 spot, where she downed Karen Nijssen.

Freshman Joanna Mather then followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Laura van de Stroet at the No. 3 spot to inch Florida closer in the team scoring, 3-2. Rookie Jessica Alexander couldn't fend off Gabriela Rangel on court No. 4, where Ole Miss claimed the 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision to secure the dual match win.

On the showcase court, Florida junior Marrit Boonstra continued her undefeated march, as she posted her 14^th consecutive dual match singles victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kristi Boxx to end the day's play.

Florida aims to rebound on Sunday, when the team plays host to Mississippi State beginning at 1 p.m. at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Admission is free.
