Gators Head to Last-Chance Meets This Weekend

Fifteen University of Florida track and field athletes head to a pair of last chance meets this weekend when the Gators travel to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the Virginia Tech Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va., for a final opportunity to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships, which take place March 13-14, 2009, in College Station, Texas.
The Gators are coming off a strong showing at the 2009 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships, where the men's team finished second and the women placed fourth.
Last chance activities begin on Friday evening in South Bend, Ind., with freshman distance runner Genevieve LaCaze (Queensland, Australia) participates in the women's 5,000m run, while senior distance runner Jeremy Criscione (Interlachen, Fla.) competes in the men's 5,000m run.
On Saturday at Notre Dame, senior pole vaulter Natalie Moser (Tampa, Fla.) will look to improve her mark in the women's pole vault beginning at 1 p.m. EST, while senior mid-distance runner Carlos Phillips (Winter Park, Fla.) runs in the Alex Wilson 800m. Teammate Ethan Philpot (Titusville, Fla.) competes in the men's open 800m at 2 p.m. EST, while junior distance runner Charlotte Browning (West Sussex, England) runs in the mile at 2:30 p.m. EST.
At the Virginia Tech Qualifier, senior Beau Burroughs (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) each try to improve upon their marks in the men's shot put beginning at 12 p.m. EST Saturday, with sophomore thrower Keely Medeiros (Luziana, Brazil) attempts to do the same in the women's shot put immediately following the men's.
Hurdlers Dennis Martin (Anderson, S.C.), Kallinka Pitt (Largo, Fla.) and William Wynne (Marietta, Ga.) compete in the 60m hurdles at 12:55 p.m. EST, with Wynne participating in the 400m dash at 2:45 p.m. EST. Freshman sprinter Alishea Usery (St. Louis, Mo.) will compete in the 60m dash (1:05 p.m. EST) and the 200m dash (3:25 p.m. EST), while men's sprinters Jeremy Hall (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Terrell Wilks (New Haven, Conn.) participate in the 60m dash at 1:15 p.m. EST. Wilks also will run in the 200m dash at 3:40 p.m. EST.
