UF's John Brantley Undergoes Surgery
Monday, April 27, 2009 | Football
University of Florida redshirt sophomore quarterback John Brantley (Ocala, Fla.) underwent successful surgery at Shands Florida Surgical Center on Monday. The procedure corrected a chronic tendonitis problem in his right ankle. Brantley is expected to fully recover and be at 100 percent by the start preseason drills in August.
After redshirting his true freshman year in 2007, Brantley saw action in nine contests, where he completed 18-of-28 passes, totaling 235 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Brantley led the Gators' offense on 22 drives, with 10 ending in a touchdown in 2008. He threw his first career touchdown on a 38-yard pass to redshirt senior wide receiver David Nelson (Wichita Falls, Texas) as Florida routed Kentucky, 63-5, Oct. 25 on UF's Homecoming.
Brantley and the Gators open up the 2009 season Sat., Sept. 5, at home against the Charleston Southern Bucs.
