W. Golf Set To Host 37th Annual SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational

The University of Florida women's golf team is hosting the 37th edition of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday. The Lady Gators will attempt to earn their fourth-consecutive title at their home tournament and 17th crown in program history.
The event begins on Sunday as each team tees off for a practice round at 8:15 a.m. The 54-hole tournament kicks off on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the first round. The next 18 holes will be played immediately following the first round of play. Tuesday morning's final round will also tee off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The tournament field for the 2009 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational includes three teams ranked in the top 10 of GolfWeek's latest poll. Auburn is No. 6, Alabama is one spot behind at No. 7 and Duke rounds out the top-10 in 10th. All of the teams participating are in the top 125 according to GolfWeek are as follows: Alabama, Auburn, BYU, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, Furman, Georgetown, Georgia State, Northwestern, South Florida and Washington.
The tournament field includes eight players on GolfWeek's Individual top-50 poll: No. 10 Jennie Lee (Duke), No. 18 Kathleen Ekey (Alabama), No. 21 Amanda Blumenhurst (Duke), No. 31 Caroline Westrup (FSU). No. 36 Caroline Lennarth (Alabama), No. 38 Cydney Clanton (Auburn), No. 40 Jessica Yadloczky (Florida) and No. 50 Brooke Pancake (Alabama).
With Alabama, Auburn and host-Florida participating, the Southeastern Conference is the most-represented conference in the tournament. The conference breakdown is as follows: ACC (2), Big East (2), Sun Belt (2), Mountain West (1), Atlantic Sun (1), Big South (1), Southern (1), Colonial (1), Big 10 (1) and PAC 10 (1).
The Lady Gators are looking to earn their first tournament title of the year and are hoping to ride the momentum they gained following a successful weekend in Utah at the BYU Dixie Classic where the squad took home third place honors. The team is hoping they can continue their strong play from the Lady Gator to their next tournament, the 2009 SEC Championships in Columbia, S.C.
