Forty-Eight Gator Student-Athletes to Take Place in Commencement Ceremonies This Weekend
Friday, May 1, 2009 | General
Forty-eight University of Florida current and former student-athletes will earn their degrees from UF this Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 3, as commencement ceremonies take place throughout the Gator campus.
Leading the way for soon-to-be UF graduates, the women's track and field and cross country teams will graduate eight seniors in commencement ceremonies this weekend, while eight current and former members of the Gator football team will graduate from UF. Among them, former Florida kicker Joey Ijjas (Clearwater, Fla.) will earn his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Ijjas saw action in 12 games during the Orange and Blue's national title run in 2006. Senior Kestahn Moore (Arlington, Texas), who signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos following the 2009 NFL Draft, will earn his degree in Sport Management after helping lead the Gators to the 2008 FedEx BCS National Championship Title.
Six men's track and cross country athletes, and six men's and women's swimmers each, will also walk in commencement ceremonies, while the Gator baseball team will bid three former players, Dustin Bambert (Winter Haven, Fla.), Bryson Barber (Pensacola, Fla.) and Aaron Sobieraj (Clearwater, Fla.), goodbye.
Florida's men's golf, soccer, volleyball and softball teams will graduate two Gators each, while the Orange & Blue women's basketball team, gymnastics and tennis teams will congratulate Aneika Henry (Coconut Grove, Fla.), Nicola Willis (Hadleigh, England) and Whitney Benik (Delray Beach, Fla.), respectively, on their graduation from the University.
