UF Golfer Tyson Alexander Shoots 73 in First Round of U.S. Open

University of Florida golfer Tyson Alexander (Gainesville, Fla.) is making the most of his opportunity this weekend at the 109th U.S. Open Championship, shooting an opening round 73 (+3). He was tied for 55th out of 156 golfers after the first round at the difficult Bethpage State Park Black course in Farmingdale, New York.
Alexander ranked sixth among amateur players in the field. He opened his round making par on the first eight holes before a bogey on the par-four ninth. After bogeys on No. 12 and 15, Alexander finished with three-straight pars for a 73 (+3).
Former Gators Brian Gay, Josh McCumber and Camilo Villegas are also in the field this weekend. Gay was tied with Alexander in 55th at three-over 73 after round one. McCumber shot 78 (+8) and was tied for 129th. Villegas shot one-over par 71 in the first round and was tied for 25th heading into the second round.
Due to the rainy conditions on Thursday, the schedule for the remainder of the tournament has been adjusted. Second round action began on Friday evening and will conclude on Saturday morning.
