USA Lacrosse Defeats Australia 10-9 in FIL World Cup Group Play

The United States held defending world champion Australia scoreless in the second half to take a narrow 10-9 win in Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup group play.
The U.S. fell behind 5-0 early in the game and entered halftime trailing 9-4. But in the second half, the U.S. rallied and shut out the Australians, carefully chipping away at the lead.
Acacia Walker equalized the game on a free position at 7:45, and Sarah Albrecht scored the game-winner minutes later on an assist from Caroline Cryer. Six different players scored in a balanced offensive effort from the U.S.

Meghan Heuther relieved starting goalie Devon Wills (3 saves) to start the second half and anchored the shut-out with six saves.
The U.S. roster includes two with ties to the University of Florida. Erica LaGrow and Jenny Ulehla, both UF Assistant Lacrosse Coaches, are part of the USA team. LaGrow, who graduated from North Carolina, is a midfielder for the 18-member U.S. roster. Ulehla is an assistant coach for the U.S.
First place United States now stands 4-0 and will enter quarterfinals Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. EST (4:00 p.m. Prague time) against the winner of the “Play In” match between Ireland and the Czech Republic.
