Nelson Gets Set for KFC World Cup; Butler Participates in MLB All-Star Break Festivities

Recent University of Florida pitcher Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) will make her USA National Team debut in the United States as the Red, White and Blue gear up for the KFC World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Nelson earned two wins in her first national team action as the Americans swept the Canada Cup last week in Surrey, British Columbia, to take home the gold medal with 12 wins. The former Gator pitched 10 innings, struck out seven and allowed 10 hits, three walks and only one unearned run.
The U.S. begins World Cup action on Thursday, July 16 with an 8 p.m. (EST) game against the Netherlands, a team they defeated twice, 7-0 and 8-0, in the Canada Cup. Fans can watch the matchup on ESPN.
In other UF softball news, former Gator and 2006 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Kristen Butler (Orlando, Fla.) played in the 2009 Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball game on July 12 in St. Louis, Mo. The game was aired on ESPN on Monday night. Butler's American League team fell to the National League, 10-8, as the two star-studded teams battled for the ninth time. Butler currently catches for the professional softball team the Akron Racers.
