The Gators are Cooking - Literally!
Sunday, July 19, 2009 | Women's Basketball
One of the many benefits and services offered to Gator student-athletes is the availability of a full-time sports nutritionist. Anna Grout is the coordinator of sports nutrition and held a cooking class for the women's basketball team.
PHOTOS from the Cooking Class can be found on www.CoachAmandaButler.com. From the main page of the website, click on the icon text “SCRAPBOOK.” The title of this photo gallery is “COOKING CLASS.”
Six members of the 2009-10 Gator squad attended the first of two cooking classes Anna hosted during the summer session for the team, where they prepared a menu consisting of:
Easy Cheesey Broccoli
Turkey BLT Salad
Crispy Ranch Chicken
Pasta & Meat Sauce
Granola & Yogurt Parfait
Bread
“The purpose is to make sure that they can get into the kitchen and develop a better understanding of what goes into their food, what they should eat and when they should eat it,” Grout explained. “It helps them understand good nutrition and how to fuel themselves properly. They can see how to prepare meals quickly and easily and discover things they make in their dorm room.”
Anna meets with each women's basketball student-athlete at least twice a semester, depending on their specific schedules. She also works more frequently with any student-athlete who wants to get a better understanding of their own personal nutrition and how it can help them on and off the court.
