School-Record Seven Gators Chosen To SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll

Seven members of the Gator baseball team were recently named to the Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll, as Will Jolin (Guilford, Conn.), Greg Larson (Longwood, Fla.), Ben McMahan (Windermere, Fla.), Alex Panteliodis (Tampa, Fla.), Daniel Pigott (Ormond Beach, Fla.), Tyler Thompson (Tequesta, Fla.) and Jerico Weitzel (Ridgway, Pa.) were recognized for their work in the classroom. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's club set a program-high for honorees and tied for the most recipients in the league with Georgia and Kentucky.
The Gators led or tied all SEC institutions for 2009 Freshman Academic All-SEC honorees in seven sports - women's swimming & diving (13), soccer (12), baseball (7), men's swimming & diving (7), volleyball (6), gymnastics (4) and men's basketball (3).
The announcement gave Florida a total of 237 student-athletes that were named to a SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2008-09. Florida placed 168 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls (71 on the Spring list, 44/Winter, 53/Fall) and a total of 69 on the Freshman Honor Roll.
To be recognized to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
