Wednesday, July 22, 2009 | Football
The University of Florida football team's season opener against Charleston Southern from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Sept. 5 has been slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast live in high-definition on the FSN regional networks serving the SEC territory (Sun Sports in Florida). The Gators' second game of the season versus Troy on Sept. 12 will begin at 12:21 p.m. ET and air on the SEC Network.
The FSN regional networks serving the SEC territory reach more than 24 million cable and satellite households. SEC programming will be distributed on Sun Sports in Florida; FOX Sports South in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Mississippi; FOX Sports Carolinas in North Carolina and South Carolina; FOX Sports Tennessee in Tennessee; and FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston in Arkansas and Louisiana.
The Florida-Charleston Southern game begins the seven-game football package this season on Sun Sports as part of a multi-year television rights agreement with ESPN for regional cable and satellite rights to more than 90 SEC events each academic year. Two other SEC conference matchups will follow on the network, with Mississippi State at Auburn on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. ET and Mississippi State at Vanderbilt on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. ET. Fans outside the SEC territory will see these games on either their local FSN regional sports network or they can be accessed via the "sports pack" package from DIRECTV and DISH will see the seven games live outside of the SEC territory on any one of the FOX regionals carrying them.
ESPN Regional Television, the new over-the-air syndication home for Southeastern Conference programming, and the SEC announced on Tuesday a regionally-syndicated college sports package that will air in more than 73 television markets, along with the branding of the syndication package as the SEC Network – all part of the groundbreaking 15-year agreement between ESPN, Inc., and the SEC.
Within the nine-state SEC footprint, the SEC Network will be delivered in markets by the local over-the-air carrier of SEC events. In markets outside the SEC footprint, the syndicated programming will air on either local, over-the-air television stations or regional sports cable networks.
Fans are encouraged to check local listings for station information. Games which are not scheduled to air in a certain market will be available via the ESPN Game Plan.
