USA U19 Team Downs Canada in World Championships Eight-Final Round Game

The 2009 USA U19 World Championship Team, of which UF head coach Amanda Butler is an assistant of, downed Canada, 62-50, in Group F of the eight-final round Monday afternoon in Bangkok, Thailand.
The USA defense forced 21 turnovers, collected 12 steals and limited Canada (2-2) to a 25.3 percent shooting effort en route to improving to 3-1 overall in the event. The Red, White & Blue jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and then took a 39-26 halftime advantage to help overcome a 32.1 percent shooting mark and being outrebounded, 46-38.
The USA next plays Russia (4-0) on Tue., July 28 at 4:15 a.m. EDT, before closing out this round of play on Wed., July 29 against Japan (1-2), with tip-off slated for 2 a.m. EDT.
