Nelson Gears Up for Japan Cup with National Team

Former Gator Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) will play in her third international competition of the summer as the U.S. National team travels to Sendai City, Japan, for the 2009 Japan Cup.
The USA will face Australia tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. (ET) to open their pool play. The Red, White and Blue defeated the Australians, 3-1, to win the gold medal at the KFC World Cup in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Americans will also match up against Chinese Taipei and Japan before the medal games on Aug. 2.
The U.S. is undefeated in competition this summer, going 18-0. It took home the gold at the Canada Cup and the KFC World Cup. Nelson has pitched 15 innings, including one start. She has struck out nine without allowing an unearned run. Opponents are batting .268 against the righty.
