Pair of Gator Soccer Players on 2009 Preseason All-SEC List

Two University of Florida seniors are among the soccer coaches preseason All-Southeastern Conference team, the league office released Thursday. Florida is the three-time defending SEC champions and both Gator selections appeared on the 2008 All-SEC Preseason team.
This is the third year for the preseason All-SEC team. The coaches preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of 11 players. Each SEC head soccer coach voted for three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper and one at-large candidate. No ties were broken. The Gators among the SEC Soccer Preseason List includes:
Ashlee Elliott (Sr., MF)
· 2008 & 2007 All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection
· 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region second team selection
· 2007 All-SEC Tournament selection
· Fifth among the Gators in 2008 with 11 points off of four goals and three assists
Lauren Hyde (Sr., D)
· 2007 NSCAA All-America third-team member
· 2007 & 2006 All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection; 2008 All-SEC second-team
· 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region third team selection; first team in 2007
· Missed two starts in 2008 due to injury – otherwise has started every possible match of her collegiate career
Florida opens the 2009-10 competitive season for the Gator athletic program when it travels to Coral Gables, Fla., to meet Miami on Aug. 21. The home season at the James G. Pressly Stadium begins with pair of in-state rivals – Florida International on Friday, Aug. 28 and USF on Sunday, Aug. 30. The 2009 season will be challenging for the Gators, as half of Florida's 20 regular-season opponents received berths in the 2008 NCAA Championships' 64-team field. Florida is ranked No. 10 in the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Preseason poll.
