Senior Florida jumper Shara Proctor (The Valley, Anguila), who captured three Southeastern Conference Championships for the Gators in 2009, on Friday advanced to the finals of the women's long jump at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics at Berlin, Germany.
Proctor recorded a leap of 21-4.75/6.52m (-0.3) to finish sixth in her flight and 12th overall and advance through the qualifying round of the women's long jump.
Earlier this summer, Proctor captured the first gold medal in a championship event in the history of her native Anguila, by claiming the women's long jump title at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships.
The finals of the women's long jump take place on Sunday.
Former Gator middle-distance runner Moise Joseph turned in a season-best time of 1:45.87 in the semifinals of the men's 800-meter run, but fell short of qualifying for the finals of the event.
