Nelson Records Win in Japan Cup; US Takes Gold

Recent senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) pitched her first complete-game win for the U.S. National team as the Americans defeated Japan, 6-1, on Saturday evening. Nelson struck out four while allowing only three hits.
The former Gator led the Red, White and Blue to another victory as she went the full seven innings in the circle. The only Japanese run of the game came unearned in the fourth.
The US went on to defeat Japan, 2-0, in the gold medal game to claim its third first-place finish of the summer (Canada Cup & KFC World Cup). The Americans have yet to lose a contest, racking up a 22-0 record.
Nelson collected three wins over the summer as a member of the national team. In her 23 innings of work, she struck out 15 and allowed 19 hits. She allowed only two earned runs to bring her ERA to 0.61 and opponents hit .261 in international play.
