Jeff Demps Named a Candidate for 2009 Doak Walker Award

University of Florida sophomore running back Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) has been named a candidate for the 2009 Doak Walker Award, announced today by The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Demps started five games in 2008 and was an SEC All-Freshman selection after rushing for 605 yards on just 78 carries, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. He scored eight touchdowns last season (seven rushing, one receiving), with half of his touchdowns coming on plays longer than 40 yards.
The field of candidates includes the nation's leading returning rusher, MiQuale Lewis, from Ball State. Other candidates include the leading returning rushers from the Pac 10 (Jahvid Best, California, Berkley); the Big 12 (Kendal Hunter, Oklahoma State) and the ACC (Jonathan Dwyer, Georgia Tech).
