Costa-Schmid Finishes 14th in 400-Meter Free on Day Three of U.S. Open

Sophomore Melani Costa-Schmid (Palma de Mallona, Spain) cruised to a 14th place finish in the women's 400-meter free Thursday on day three of the 2009 U.S. Open at the Weyerhauser King Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Costa-Schmid touched in at 4:17.14 in prelims to advance to the B final where she swam an even quicker 4:15.62 to place 14th. Gator sophomore men's swimmer Jeff Raymond (Davie, Fla.) swam prelims of the men's 400 free, finishing in 4:08.84, 61st overall in the field.
Raymond doubled up on the third day of competition, swimming prelims of the 100-meter butterfly after the 400 free heats. He clocked in at 57.28, a 76th-place finish.
The Gators will continue the final two days of competition at the U.S. Open Friday and Saturday.
