Gator Football Names Team Captains

University of Florida football head coach Urban Meyer announced the five players who will serve as the Gators' captains during the 2009 campaign. The captains were voted on by their teammates.
Senior wide receiver/return man Brandon James (St. Augustine, Fla.), redshirt senior wide receiver Joey Sorrentino (Gainesville, Fla.), senior linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.), redshirt senior linebacker Ryan Stamper (Jacksonville, Fla.) and senior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) were announced as team captains by Meyer.
Spikes, Stamper and Tebow are three of only eight players to be named captain twice in their careers, as they received the honor last season as well.
No. 1 Florida will kick off the 2009 season against Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The game will be televised live by FSN/Sun Sports.
