No. 14 Florida Soccer Team Plays Host to No. 20 Colorado Sunday

The No. 14 University of Florida soccer team (4-2, 0-0 SEC) plays host to No. 20 Colorado (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) on Sunday, Sept. 13. Match time is set for noon at the James G. Pressly Stadium. This is an hour earlier than the previously announced start time due to the Buffs return flight schedule. Admission is free for all 2009 Gator soccer regular-season matches.
Sunday is Dollar Day at Gator soccer and select menu items (hotdogs, sodas, etc.) are only $1.00.
For the second consecutive Sunday, Florida meets a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top-25 team. This is an especially challenging portion of the season for the Gators. Florida lost to No. 6 UCLA on Sunday, Sept. 6 and is set to meet No. 4 Florida State on Friday, Sept. 18.

The first one to get a three in a row, wins a prize; Orange Light, Blue Light – All kids 12 and under are invited to the field to participate, when the announcer says Orange light, kids run and when he says Blue light, they must stop or they are out of the contest. Both teams bring a 4-2 record into Sunday's match. The Gators also used a 2-1 score Friday to take a home win over Duke. Sophomore Lindsay Thompson and freshman Brooke Thigpen each turned in their second goals of the season in Friday's win. Colorado is the third opponent that brings a national ranking into the match with Florida. The Gators opened the season with a 1-0 win at Miami, ranked No. 26 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason poll. UF lost 3-0 to then No. 9 UCLA on Sept. 6 in Champaign, Ill.
Florida is the third ranked opponent for the Buffs this season. CU opened the season with a 1-0 home win over then No. 11 Oklahoma State, but lost 2-1 to then No. 13 Illinois at the Denver University Invitational. Last Friday in Boulder, Colo., the Buffs handed Utah a 2-1 loss. Nikki Marshall and Kelly Butler share the Colorado season goals lead with three apiece. Marshall is a Soccer America Preseason All-America selection and joins Florida's Lauren Hyde among the 30 candidates for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
This is the third meeting between the two teams and the first in Gainesville. Last season, the two teams played to a 1-1 2OT tie in Boulder in the season opener for both teams.
