Gator Gymnasts 2009 NCAA Super Six Appearance Celebrated at Season Opening Football Game

The University of Florida's 2009 NCAA Super Six team final appearance was honored at Saturday's season opening football game. The Gator gymnastics team made its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Super Six team final, finishing fourth overall. Florida also claimed its fifth consecutive NCAA Regional title with its the 2009 North Central Region Championship.
Five Gators earned a total of nine All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Those gymnasts were also recognized at Saturday's presentation.
· Alicia Goodwin (uneven bars - first team)
· Corey Hartung (floor exercise - first team)
· Elizabeth Mahlich (balance beam - second team)
· Melanie Sinclair (uneven bars – first team; all-around and floor exercise - second team)
· Maranda Smith (all-around, vault - first team; floor exercise – second team)
Florida placed six on the NACGC Scholastic All-America team. Those being honored Saturday as a Scholastic All-American included Nicole Ellis, Amy Ferguson, Goodwin, Ashley Kerr, Kailey Tissue and Rebekah Zaiser.
The Gator gymnastics team opens the 2010 season with a Jan. 8 at Oklahoma. Florida plays host to the 2010 NCAA Championships in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center April 22-24.
