No. 8 Florida Gymnastics Opens Home Season Friday with SEC Rival No. 7 Arkansas

The No. 8 University of Florida gymnastics team (0-1, 0-0 SEC) opens up its home and Southeastern Conference seasons with No. 7 Arkansas (1-0, 0-0 SEC) on Friday, Jan. 15. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
A 2-for-1 general admission coupon is available on the University of Florida Athletics Facebook page – just print out the coupon and bring to the O'Connell Center Ticket Office. Fans can present their ticket stub from Tuesday's men's basketball game versus Kentucky to receive free admission into the event. Immediately following Friday's meet, fans can get autographs from several gymnasts in the Gate 3 lobby.

Arkansas is the second consecutive opponent for Florida ranked in the top-10 (Jan. 8 – then No. 9 Oklahoma). In their last meeting, Florida was fourth in the 2009 Super Six team final with 196.725 while the Razorbacks took fifth at 196.475. In 2009 dual meet action between these two teams, Arkansas registered their first and only win in the all-time series, taking a 196.375-195.425 win in Fayetteville, Ark.
On Jan. 8, Florida opened the season with a loss against then No. 9 Oklahoma. The Gators were unable to make up the point deficit it recorded to the Sooners in the bars and finished 0.975 behind in the final standings. With half of Florida's routines being turned in by freshman, newcomer Ashan?e Dickerson claimed first or second-place finishes in four of the evening's five events, including posting the nation's second-highest all-around total (39.35) of this very young season. Dickerson also shared first on vault at 9.875 with senior All-American Maranda Smith.
Arkansas opened its 2010 season with a ranked opponent, taking a 195.40-192.65 home win over then-No. 20 Arizona last Friday. The Razorbacks swept the top three spots in the all-around (Jamie Pisani: 39.125; Sarah Nagashima: 39.075; and Casey Jo Magee: 38.80). Arkansas returns four All-Americans from its 2009 team which recorded the program's best finish of fifth at the 2009 Super Six competition.
