Revzina Highlights W-Tennis Play at Freeman Memorial on Friday

University of Florida women's tennis senior Anastasia Revzina highlighted the Gators' first day of play at the eighth annual Freeman Memorial Championships held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
Revzina won a pair of singles matches, as well as one doubles match in quick fashion to complete a perfect opening day in the three-day event.
“It wasn't the greatest day from a win-loss standpoint, but the highlight of the day clearly was Anastasia Revzina. She played at about as a high level as she has ever played during her career,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “Overall, we're hitting the ball really well, with good pace, which hopefully will translate into more wins later. We came up short in some spots, but we're here to get matches under our belt and get better each day.”
Revzina defeated Southern California's Cristala Andrews, 7-6, 6-4, in the first round of the Flight One Draw, before topping Arizona State's Micaela Hein, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, in the second. She began the day pairing with Marrit Boonstra for an 8-0 shutout over Southern California's Andrews and Leyla Entekhai.
UF freshman Caroline Hitimana lost her collegiate singles debut 6-1, 6-3 to North Carolina's Sophie Grabinski, but rebounded in the consolation match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against UCLA's Carling Seguso. Sophomore Claire Bartlett dropped both of her singles matches on Friday, first to Arizona State's Nadia Abdala, 7-5, 6-4, before a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 decision to Southern California's Leyla Entekhabi. Bartlett and Hitimana lost their opening round doubles match 8-2 to Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan.
Boonstra dropped her first round singles match 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Oregon's Julia Metzger, but did not play a consolation match.
Action continues on Saturday from the campus of UNLV, beginning with doubles at 10 a.m. PT, followed by two rounds of singles play.
