Tuesday, January 26, 2010 | Gymnastics
For the second week in a row, University of Florida's Ashan?e Dickerson (Ah-ZHAH-nay) is the Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Senior Morgan Dennis of Alabama picked up the SEC Gymnast of the Week honor.
Dickerson picked up her third consecutive all-around title in Florida's Jan. 22 meet win versus then-No. 12 Kentucky. Dickerson took the all-around title with a total of 39.25 and is the first Gator to open a season with three straight all-around wins since former Gator All-American Melissa Miller did in 1988. Dickerson also led Florida in floor exercise (9.90) to take second overall. Dickerson leads UF in 2010 with six event titles.
Dickerson is ranked No.T4 in the nation in all-around with a season average of 39.358. She is also among the national rankings for the nation's top 10 for two events – No.T8 vault (9.875) and No.T10 floor (9.883).
Next up, No.4 Florida will meet No.13 LSU in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. for the Fourth Annual Gators Link to Pink. The meet is part of a SEC initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer and all of the league's teams will participate in a “pink” meet this season. Team colors are set aside as each team will wear pink (but in different shades). Information aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and treatment will be included at Friday's meet.
The first 500 fans at the meet receive the 2010 Gators Link to Pink poster and the first 1,000 fans receive a Link to Pink t-shirt, courtesy of Sun Sports. Stop by local Chick-Fil-A restaurants to pick up passes for free admission into the meet. Tickets are $4.00 for adults, while children 17 and under plus UF students with Gator1 cards are admitted free. Check out a complete list of promotions for the meet here.
