Lewark Takes Second On One-Meter Springboard at Georgia Diving Invite

After Florida senior Kara Salamone (Cooper City, Fla.) claimed the women's one-meter diving title (285.70) on the first day of the 2010 Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens Sunday, the Gator women's diving team returned for another day of tough competition Monday. Junior Monica Dodson (Franklin, Ind.) led the way for the Orange and Blue with a second-place finish 296.50 in the three-meter competition. Dodson also previously represented the Gators in seventh (265.85) on the one-meter board on the first day of diving at the Gabrielson Natatorium.
In men's one-meter finals Monday, sophomore Anthony Lewark (Davie, Fla.) rallied for a second-place finish on the 1M springboard with a score of 324.90 to conclude a successful day for the Gators. Junior Jonathan Speed (Jupiter, Fla.), sophomore Colin Bell (Coral Springs, Fla.) and junior Grayson Patten (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished 14th, 21st and 27th in the one-meter springboard prelims.
In women's Monday morning prelims, sophomore Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.) dove to a 14th place finish, with a score of 255.80, while Salamone took second in prelims (311.30) before scratching finals.
In men's three-meter action Sunday, Lewark dove to a ninth-place finish (331.20), while Bell (295.10) and juniors (270.95) Patten and Speed (237.45) took 13th, 23rd and 31st, respectively.
At 6 p.m., the divers will take to the boards for a shootout of the top six divers at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, the divers will compete in one round on the platform. In the shootout, each diver will do a dive of his choice with the competitor with the lowest score from each round eliminated until two divers remain. The order of each round is determined by the scores from the previous round with the best score going last. There are five groups and each diver will call out his dive before he goes and cannot repeat a group.
