Former Gator Percy Harvin Named to 2010 Pro Bowl
Tuesday, January 5, 2010 | Football
Former Gator Great Percy Harvin was selected to the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl roster by the league on Monday. The rookie is one of a league-high nine players from the Minnesota Vikings who will attend the Pro Bowl.
Harvin, a two-time All-American while at Florida, is the 19th former Gator to earn a spot on a Pro Bowl roster. He is only the second Gator to make the roster as a kick returner, joining the Washington Redskins' Tony Green, who appeared on the 1979 roster. Harvin joins Green, Cris Collinsworth, Jevon Kearse and Emmitt Smith as Gators who made the Pro Bowl in their rookie season.
DeSean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles made the NFC team at two positions, wide receiver and kick returner. The league's plan was to fill the spot Jackson received the least voting points for with another player. That void was filled by Harvin, who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and finished fourth in the NFL with an average of 27.5 yards per return.
Harvin is the second Vikings' kick returner to make the Pro Bowl team, joining Koren Robinson (2005). Harvin set Minnesota's single-season franchise record for all-purpose yardage with 2,081 yards.
The annual contest between the AFC's and NFC's best will take place on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Landshark Stadium in South Florida and will be broadcast on ESPN.
