Sunday is Senior Day and Florida's three seniors – Ashlee Elliott, Katie Fraine and Nicky Kit – will be honored in a pre-match ceremony. The trio has 239 starts among them. At least one of the three has been in every starting lineup since the opener of the 2007 season.
After three consecutive seasons with meetings in the regular-season and SEC Tournament, Florida and Georgia met only once in 2009. The 2009 match was aired live on ESPNU from Athens. Tahnai Annis headed in a cross from Lindsay Thompson in the 86th minute to give UF a 1-0 win.
Florida opened this weekend with a 4-2 win over Tennessee Friday at Pressly Stadium. Annis and Thompson each turned in their fourth career double-goal matches Friday. The Gators scored three goals within a five-minute span of the opening half. Annis scored first at 26:26, with Thompson adding goals at 28:47 and 31:11. The Lady Vols added a goal at 49:01, but Annis headed in her second goal of the day at 52:47 to give the Gators' their fourth and final goal. UT's Chelsea Hatcher kept the double-goal theme going as she added her second at 55:44, but that goal was the final by either team. Annis now leads the SEC with 10 goals this season.
The Bulldogs will be looking for their second upset road win of the weekend Sunday as they handed No. 14 South Carolina its first SEC loss of the season Friday. Freshman Alexa Newfield provided all the scoring of the match when she hit an 18-yard unassisted goal in the fourth minute, as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 win at USC. Georgia is the only undefeated team remaining in the league race, as it has posted three other wins (1-0 versus LSU and Vanderbilt; 3-0 at Mississippi State) and three ties (0-0 2OT versus Arkansas and at Mississippi; 1-1 2OT versus Kentucky). Freshman midfielder Nicole Locandro leads UGA with 15 points off of five goals and five assists. UGA goalkeeper Ashley Baker, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week, has now registered four consecutive shutouts. UGA Head Coach Steve Holeman joined Georgia in the spring of 2010 after serving as Mississippi's head coach for the past 15 seasons.
Sunday's match can be heard on www.GatorZone.com with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington covering the action.
