The tragic death of 3-year-old Sebastian Ferrero in October 2007 sent ripples through the Gainesville community.
Sebastian was healthy and died because of a series of preventable medical errors, including a medication overdose.
Following his death, Sebastian's parents, Horst and Luisa Ferrero, founded the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation in their son's memory. The foundation's mission is to raise money for a state-of-the-art children's hospital.
As part of that goal, the foundation's annual fundraising event, Noche de Gala, takes place on Saturday at the Besilu Collection in Micanopy.
Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan, who has been a strong advocate of the foundation's goal, is this year's celebrity chair at Noche de Gala.
Donovan has done infomercials for the Ferrero Foundation and has participated in other fundraising efforts to build a full-service children's hospital in Gainesville.
