Mackenzie Caquatto Helps U.S. Women Win 2010 World Gymnastics Championships Silver Medal

Incoming University of Florida freshman Mackenzie Caquatto aided the U.S. women to the World Gymnastics Championship silver medal Wednesday evening at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The U.S. women were just 0.201 points behind Russia. The finish extends the U.S. women team's streak of winning a team medal at every World Championships and Olympic Games since 2000. Russia edged the U.S. 175.397 to 175.196 for the gold. China was third at 174.781.
Caquatto, who will join the Gator team for the 2011 season, led off the U.S. team on two events in Wednesday's final – vault and uneven bars. The U.S. Team opened competition on the bars and Caquatto hit her routine which featured three release moves with a solid Tkatchev, along with a full twisting double back dismount. She earned a mark of 14.666.

The fight for the title came down to the last rotation. The U.S. completed competition on vault, performing three well-executed vaults: Caquatto competed a Yurchenko double-full, receiving a 15.00.
In addition to awarding world medals, the 2010 World Championships also determine the 24 countries that advance to the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. Countries have two opportunities to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games, finishing in the top eight in the team competition at the 2011 World Championships or in the top four at the 2012 Olympic Test Event in London. World champions and medalists will be determined for both men and women in the team, all-around and individual events.
The Gator gymnastics team opens the 2011 season Friday, Jan. 11 when they play host to Nebraska. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
