The Gators dropped to a tie for first with South Carolina in the SEC standings after recording a 1-1 2OT tie at Alabama Friday evening. Tahnai Annis gave UF a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute when she scored her eighth goal of the season. A goal in the 90th minute by UA's Brooke Rogers off a corner kick tied the contest, pushing the two teams to overtime for only the second time in the 16 all-time meetings. Although Florida recorded seven shots in overtime, it couldn't find the winner and the match ended in a tie for only the second time in the series history. Five of the six SEC matches played on Friday went to overtime.
The Tigers are third in the SEC Western Division and is seventh overall in the league standings with its 2-3 record. Friday, Auburn lost 3-1 to No. 15 South Carolina in Friday's play. In AU's other league action, the Tigers defeated Mississippi State (3-1) and Arkansas (3-2) and lost to Mississippi and at LSU by scores of 2-1. Junior Katy Frierson and senior Sammy Towne both were named to 2010 Coaches Preseason All-SEC team. Frierson and UF McKenzie Barney were named the NSCAA National Player of the Week after scoring the golden goal to give their teams overtime wins versus Florida State in early September. Frierson shares second in the league in points (21) with UF's Barney and Annis. Frierson and teammate Mary Coffed are tied for 12th in the nation with seven assists each.
In last season's meeting, Florida's Angela Napolitano scored the only goal of the first half at 19:35. Three different Gators scored in the second half – Erika Tymrak (76:48), Lauren Hyde (83:43) and McKenzie Barney (89:59) as UF posted a 4-0 win. Barney's goal was the second-latest goal in regulation in the program's history.
