
Florida Soccer Hosts Duke Sunday for NCAA Second Round Action

The no. 2 regional seed, the University of Florida soccer team (19-2-2, 9-1-1 SEC), plays host to Duke (11-7-3, 4-5-1 AC) in NCAA Championship Second Round action on Sunday, Nov. 14. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium.

Tickets for NCAA Second Round action are $7 for adults; $3 for youth 12 & under, students, and senior citizens. The first 200 UF students with identification are admitted free.
The winner of Sunday's match advances to the NCAA Round of 16, which will take place Nov. 19, 20 or 21. NCAA Quarterfinal action is the following weekend (Nov. 26, 27 or 28). The NCAA College Cup is set for Dec. 3 and 5 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., with NC State, Town of Cary and Capital Area Soccer League acting as hosts for the event.
Duke gave Florida its first tie of the season when these two teams met in the Duke Nike Classic on Sept. 17 in Durham, N.C. Sophomore McKenzie Barney gave UF a 1-0 lead with her goal in the 53rd minute, but DU freshman Laura Weinberg tied the match in the 89th minute to force overtime.
The Gators advanced to today's match with a 3-0 win Friday over Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament champion Mercer. Barney now leads the Gators in total goals (14) after she scored UF's first and final goals Friday. Junior Tahnai Annis hit an 18-yard strike to open second half scoring. She leads UF in points (33) and is second in goals (13). Two of the goals Friday were assisted by sophomore Erika Tymrak, marking her third match of the season with two or more assists. She leads UF in assists (13) and is third in points (25). Senior goalkeeper Katie Fraine returned to the starting lineup after sitting out the Southeastern Conference Tournament finale with an injury. She extended her UF solo shutouts record to 26 with Friday's result.
Duke trailed California in Friday's opening round action, as the Bears scored with just eight seconds remaining in the opening half. But the Blue Devils scored twice within a 32 second span to give them the final 2-1 margin. Both DU scorers Friday are freshmen. Kaitlynn Kerr put the Blue Devils on the board at 71:20 and Weinberg gave DU the go-ahead goal at 71:52. Weinberg leads DU this season with 10 goals and 22 points. Duke advanced to its 17th overall and eighth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance with an at-large berth.
