Wednesday, November 17, 2010 | Men's Basketball
Sophomore Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) scored 21 points and three other players scored in double digits, but Florida men's basketball could not overcome Ohio State's second-half surge and fell, 93-75, in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on Tuesday night.
Seniors Chandler Parsons (Casselberry, Fla.) and Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth, Va.) chipped in 13 and 12 points respectively and junior Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15.
The Gators played evenly with the Buckeyes in the first half, shooting 60 percent (18-of-30 FG) from the field, their best percentage in a half since the second half at Georgia on Feb. 27, 2010.
Florida also out-rebounded Ohio State 19-8 in the first half. The Buckeyes did not grab their second offensive rebound until the 1:30 mark in the first half, while UF's nine offensive rebounds led to 10 second-chance points.
The Gators were 2-of-5 from three (40 percent) and led 41-38 going into half two.
Ohio State's three-point attack succeeded in the second half as the Buckeyes went 6-for-11 from three and shot 70.6 percent from the field. Jared Sullinger recorded the only double-double of the game with 26 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. David Lighty also added 26 points and three assists for Ohio State.
Florida returns to the court to face North Carolina A&T on Thurs. Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the O'Connell Center. The game will be televised on Sun Sports.
