GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Standout Spanish golfer Camilla Hedberg has inked a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Florida in the 2011-12 season, head coach Jan Dowling announced Wednesday.
“We are extremely excited to have Camilla join our team in the fall of 2011," Dowling said. "She has an abundance of international tournament experience and has succeeded at the highest level in Europe. She loves to compete and loves the game of golf, which is exactly what we are looking for.”
Hedberg, the second-ranked amateur female golfer in Spain and the 16th-rated player in the Ladies' European Amateur Rankings, has proven to be a force in European competition. She has recorded top-10 finishes this year in the Ladies British Open Amateur Qualifying tournament (fourth), the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship in Northern Ireland in August (tied for fifth), the European Girls Team Championship in Denmark (finished sixth individually), the International European Ladies' Amateur Championship in the Czech Republic (seventh) and the Spanish Amateur Championship in Murcia, Spain (eighth). She also participated in the Open de Espa?a Femenino, a Ladies European Tour event in September, where she placed in a tie for 24th in a tournament won by golf legend Laura Davies.
Additionally, she is coming off of a victory in the prestigious Troph?e des R?gions in Montpellier, France, just more than two weeks ago. In 2010, she also has won the Lacoste 4 Nations title as part of the Spanish team in a competition against Italy, France and the Netherlands and is the champion of the Catalonia Under-21 tournament that was held near her hometown in Sitges, Spain.
“Camilla will have an immediate positive impact on our team both on the golf course and as a teammate,” Dowling added. “She is committed to achieving her goals, and also comes from a very supportive and positive family.”
