McCarney latest Meyer assistant to land top job

In his 10 seasons as a head coach, Urban Meyer has built winning programs at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida.
Meyer has also built an impressive coaching pipeline.
The Denton Record-Chronicle in Texas reported Sunday that another of Meyer's assistants – current Florida assistant head coach/defensive line coach Dan McCarney – is expected to be officially introduced as North Texas's head coach on Tuesday.
McCarney has spent the past three seasons on Meyer's staff and will be the eighth assistant under Meyer to land a head coaching job at another school. McCarney's departure is unrelated to UF's 7-5 season.
He showed interest in the USF job last year after Jim Leavitt was fired and has wanted to become a head coach again since an 11-year stint as Iowa State's head coach from 1995-2006.
McCarney's departure marks the third consecutive season a Meyer assistant has been hired to lead another program. Former Gators offensive coordinator Dan Mullen left in 2008 to take over Mississippi State's program, and defensive coordinator Charlie Strong left after the 2009 season to become head coach at Louisville.
Other Meyer assistants to become head coaches: Bowling Green assistant Gregg Brandon succeeded Meyer as head coach there in 2003; Kyle Whittingham took over for Meyer in 2005 at Utah; Mike Sanford, Meyer's offensive coordinator at Utah, took over UNLV in 2005 and is now offensive coordinator at Louisville; Tim Beckman, Meyer's defensive coordinator at Bowling Green, is now head coach at Toledo; and Doc Holliday, who served as Meyer's associate head coach at UF from 2005-07, is now head coach at Marshall.
