Mather and Hitimana Wrap Up Gator Fall Classic

University of Florida junior Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.) and sophomore Caroline Hitimana (Waterloo, Belgium) defeated Florida State's Manon Veldman and Frederica Suess on Saturday to start the second and final day of the Gator Fall Classic held at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
Mather and Hitimana defeated FSU's duo 8-1 to finish the tournament with an undefeated record.
“We started the day off really well with our doubles, we are really sharp there,” UF associate head coach Dave Balogh said.
In singles play, Mather fell to South Florida's Irene Rehberger in the morning round, but came back and defeated Florida International's Liset Brito in the afternoon.
“Joanna struggled a bit in the first match, but she made an impressive turnaround and beat a really good player in the afternoon,” Balogh said.
“I was glad I could get back and play another match,” said Mather. “I was able to end the fall season on a good note and I am very excited for spring.”
In other singles action, Hitimana fell to USF's Ecaterina Vasenina 6-3, 6-3 and sophomore Brittany Borsanyi (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) fell to USF's Loreto Alonso Hartinez in a three-set battle (6-2, 1-6, 6-4).
The Gators will open their spring season at the Freeman Memorial Tournament in Las Vegas on Jan. 13.
