This includes 13 visits to Glen Springs Elementary School and 30 hours of volunteering at Lawton Chiles Elementary school. King, who wants to pursue a degree in education, worked with first-grade students for one-on-one tutoring in reading and math.
She and her teammates also worked to create 400 pink tie-dye T-shirts for the 2010 Kicking for a Cure breast cancer awareness match, baked brownies for residents at Gainesville's Ronald McDonald House and volunteered at local charity walks/runs like the Not By Sight 5K and Phoenix Fox Trot. On Oct. 23, the team played soccer with children who have cancer at the annual Climb for Cancer event.
Up next for the Gator soccer team is a match versus Mercer on Friday, Nov. 12 for NCAA Championship opening round action. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under and senior citizens. The first 200 UF students with identification are admitted free.
