Three Gators Named to the 2010 Coaches All-SEC Team
Tuesday, December 7, 2010 | Football
Three University of Florida football players were named to the 2010 All-SEC team, voted on by the league's head coaches, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Seniors Ahmad Black (Lakeland, Fla.) and Chas Henry (Dallas, Ga.) earned first-team All-SEC honors, while junior Janoris Jenkins (Pahokee, Fla,) was named to the second team.
Black is eighth in the country and first in the SEC among defensive backs with a team-leading 102 tackles. He has recorded six tackles in all but three regular-season games this year and double-digit tackles in four of his last seven games. Black was also a second-team pick in 2008.
Henry, a 2010 Ray Guy Award Finalist, is tied for the national lead with 46.4 yards per punt and has only allowed 100 return yards on 11 returns this season. Henry also took over kicking duties for Florida this year, finishing 4-for-8 on field goal attempts and 24-for-25 on point-after attempts. This was his first selection to the first team after being a second-team recipient in 2008 and 2009.
Jenkins ranks third in the SEC for passes defended (0.92 per game) and is tied for eighth in the SEC and the team lead with three interceptions, along with three other Gator teammates. He was also a freshman All-SEC team member in 2008.
Defending national champion Alabama and SEC Western Division runner-up LSU had the most representatives on the team. Alabama had 12 total members, while LSU had eight.
Nine of the 12 SEC schools had a member on the first-team All-SEC squad. LSU led with five first-teamers, while SEC Champion Auburn tied Alabama with four selections on the first team. Every SEC squad had at least one student-athlete represented on the first and second teams. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The All-SEC squad had 12 first-team seniors, 12 juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore was the only freshman. LSU junior Patrick Peterson made the first team twice - once as a return specialist and once as a defensive back. Trent Richardson of Alabama and Randall Cobb of Kentucky were also both recognized at two positions.
