Monday, February 1, 2010 | Gymnastics
The University of Florida gymnastics team is part of a segment that airs Thursday, Feb. 4. on the SEC Weekly show. The show airs on ESPNU (Channel 251 on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable) at 5 p.m. ET.
The feature focuses on the gymnast's volunteer efforts at last October's Sixth Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk event at Gainesville's Northeast Park. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® (Making Strides) is an annual noncompetitive walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Funds raised support American Cancer Society breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient service programs.
UF Head Coach Rhonda Faehn was the event's Honorary Chair. The Gator gymnasts congratulated the participants as they finished, handed out drinks and rewarded the walkers with a pink ribbon emblem.
The team continued their efforts to help raise awareness about breast cancer at last Friday's Gators Link to Pink meet versus LSU. The meet was part of a Southeastern Conference initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer and all of the league's teams will participate in a “pink” meet this season. The Gators set aside their team colors to wear pink for the meet. Information aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and treatment was shared to the crowd that numbered more than 9,000.
