Wednesday, February 24, 2010 | Baseball
University of Florida senior Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was named to the inaugural Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll produced by CollegeBaseball360.com on Wednesday. The center fielder opened the season with three-consecutive multiple-hit outings as the Gators swept USF.
Hitting out of the leadoff spot, den Dekker led Florida with a .462 batting average and matched junior Josh Adams (Jacksonville , Fla.) for the top spot with four RBI. His first at bat of the year was a base-hit and Adams followed with a two-run homer as part of a four-run first inning as UF posted a 6-2 victory over the Bulls.
After going 2-for-4 in Saturday's 9-1 triumph with a double and a run scored, den Dekker came through with a two-strike, two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday to help the Gators close within 6-5. Freshman Mike Zunino (Cape Coral, Fla.) delivered a walk-off single in the 10th to give the Orange and Blue a 7-6 decision. den Dekker was 2-for-5 in the third meeting with USF and raised his hitting streak to 12 games dating back to last season.
CollegeBaseball360.com recognized a group of players from throughout the nation for their “primetime performances” during the season's opening weekend (Feb. 19-21). Leading the way were three top honorees, as New Mexico senior outfielder Max Willett and Oregon sophomore second baseman Danny Pulfer shared the inaugural honor as Co-Primetime Players of the Week and Ball State senior right-hander Morgan Coombs was the first Primetime Pitcher of the Week. These three players headline the first Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll (listed below).
Similar to the weekly awards presented on sister site CollegeSoccer360.com, the CB360 Primetime Performer honors various players based on any/all of the following “primetime” criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
• Must have been playing for a CB360 top-50 team (in the Composite National Rankings) or against such a top-level opponent, or performed a high level in a game that could be key to a team's conference/NCAA postseason qualification.
• Involved in clutch performances, such as late game-winning hits, noteworthy comebacks, game-changing plays, team leadership, etc.
• Performing at a top level against a team rated highly nationally (or within its conference), with bonus consideration given for key performances away from home field.
• Overcoming adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
