| George Washington announced Thursday afternoon it will not compete in Friday's triangular at NC State. Heavy snow is expected to hit the Washington DC area this weekend. Friday's meet will be a dual between No. 3 Florida and No. 22 NC State. |
This is the fifth time that Florida has visited Raleigh, N.C., with previous meets in 1995, 1997, 2001, and 2006. All-time the Gators lead the series with NC State 23-1, with the only loss occurring in the season opener in 1997. Against George Washington, Florida leads the series 13-0.
Last Friday, the 9,198 fans in attendance, the third highest total in school history, saw the Gators use its season-best score of 196.725 to take a 196.725-195.05 win over then No. 13 LSU in the Fourth Annual Gators Link to Pink meet. Florida's score ranked as the nation's second-highest last weekend, just a fraction behind Arkansas' winning total of 196.75 versus Kentucky. On the uneven bars, junior All-American Alicia Goodwin equaled her collegiate-best of 9.925 to take her second consecutive win of the season and on the balance beam, freshman Liz Green collected her second-consecutive event win with a 9.825. Senior All-American Maranda Smith and freshman Ashan?e Dickerson, who claimed her third consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week award on Tuesday, turned in their top collegiate marks on the floor exercise with marks of 9.925 to share the win.
Florida will be the second consecutive top-three opponent faced by NC State as the Wolfpack turned in its season-high of 194.875 last Saturday to finish second in a quad meet held in Dallas, Texas. Then No. 2 Oklahoma won at 196.10, while Texas Woman's University was third (191.225), and Alaska was fourth (188.90). Sophomore Jess Panza posted her collegiate-best mark with a 39.20 in the all-around to claim the quad meet's title.
George Washington turned in its season-high of 188.65 to take fourth in a Jan. 24 quad meet at West Virginia. Multi-team meets are familiar to the Colonials, as Friday's competition will be the third of their first four meets.
