Baseball's Hudson Randall Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Monday, March 1, 2010 | Baseball
University of Florida right-hander Hudson Randall (Atlanta, Ga.) was chosen as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday after throwing five scoreless innings in his first collegiate start last Wednesday against UCF. The No. 5 Gators claimed both of their outings last week to begin the season 5-0 under Kevin O'Sullivan for the third year in a row.
Randall notched the victory over the Knights by delivering first-pitch strikes to 12 of the 18 batters he faced. Amazingly, 53 of his 71 pitches on the evening were strikes. The rookie allowed three singles, with three strikeouts and one walk. Randall (1-0) has not surrendered an earned run in 6.1 innings this year, while limiting opponents to a .182 batting average in two appearances.
UF returns to action on Tuesday at 8 p.m. by traveling to Tampa to face No. 2 Florida State (6-0) in the nightcap of the inaugural Florida Four Tourney at George M. Steinbrenner Field. In a matchup of right-handers, sophomore Anthony DeSclafani (Freehold, N.J.) (0-0, 0.00) will draw the start against Seminole junior Geoff Parker (0-0, 11.25).
