Gators Advance to SEC Quarterfinals With Win Over Auburn

Junior Alex Tyus (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 24 points and Florida beat Auburn 78-69 Thursday night in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

Florida (21-11), now 7-0 against the SEC West this season, has a chance to add another win Friday night against Mississippi State, the West's No. 1 seed, in the quarterfinals.
Auburn (15-17) beat Florida in the quarterfinals last year, but the Tigers have now lost 12 of 13 games to Florida.
Junior Chandler Parsons (Casselberry, Fla.) scored 21 points and had six rebounds for Florida, and redshirt-junior Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth, Va.) had 10. Sophomore Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had six points, all from the charity stripe, seven rebounds and six assists.
Frankie Sullivan scored a career-high 25 points for Auburn. DeWayne Reed added 18.
The Gators will play the Bulldogs Friday night at 7:30 p.m. (ET). The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
