2010 UF NCAA Roster Announced
Monday, March 15, 2010 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Twelve Florida Gators are among the field for the 2010 Men's NCAA Championships, slated for March 25-27, 2010, on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus. Eleven qualified swimmers and one possible alternate were selected to represent the Orange and Blue next week.
The Gators are coming off one of the most successful SEC Championship meets in UF history, taking second-place at the 2010 meet in Athens, Ga., being edged by 16 points to winner, Auburn. Florida brought home six SEC titles, 14 NCAA automatic qualifying marks, a SEC record in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay and four Florida records throughout the four-day meet on the Georgia campus.
Florida was led by the 2010 SEC Men's Swimmer of the Year, junior Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.), while Dwyer and senior Shaune Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman) tied for the commissioner's trophy, the high point award, for contributing the most points towards their team's overall score at the meet. UF head coach Gregg Troy was named the 2010 SEC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, the fourth time in his tenure at Florida he has received the honor after also winning in 2000, 2002 and 2007.
The Gators return the defending NCAA Champion in the 200 free and 200 fly in Fraser, who also holds the NCAA Record in the 200 fly, as well as seven All-American's from UF's 2009 NCAA team that placed fifth at the meet in College Station, Texas.
Florida's 2010 NCAA campaign will start next Thurs., March 25, in Columbus, Ohio. For updated notes and a daily schedule of events, stay posted to www.GatorZone.com.
