Freshman Ashley Bruns Picks Up Weekly Honors

University of Florida freshman Ashley Bruns was selected as the WomensLacrosse.com and WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week for her performances against UNH and Marist this past week. She was also named the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
A native of Ellicott City, Md., Bruns totaled 12 goals and had seven assists, four ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers in two games last week. She leads the Gators in every offensive category this season with 26 goals, 21 assists and 47 points. Her total points and assists rank second in the nation and 5.88 points per game ranks fourth.
Last Wednesday against Marist, Bruns totaled 10 points on six goals and four assists to lead UF to a 22-3 win. The point total matched the fourth-highest in a single game nationally this season. She also set season-highs with three ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers in the game.
On Saturday against No. 17 New Hampshire, Bruns led the Gators to the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent. UNH ranked as high as No. 12 earlier this season, but the young Gator team scored the first five goals of the game and Bruns scored four in a row for Florida to take a 7-1 halftime lead on their way to a 15-3 victory.
Florida (5-3, 0-1 ALC) will host Cornell (2-4, 1-1 Ivy) on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in a game televised on Fox Sports Florida. Streaming video will be also available through GatorVision Online and the game will broadcast locally on radio via AM850.
