Florida's Marissa King Picks Up Third SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week

The University of Florida's Marissa King is the Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Sophomore Ashley Priess of Alabama picked up the SEC Gymnast of the Week honor.
This is the third SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week honor for King. A member of the Gator gymnastics team has been honored by the SEC seven of the 11 weeks of the 2010 season.
King's collegiate-best all-around total of 39.575 versus then No. 9 Utah gave King her second all-around title in as many meets. The all-around total was boosted by collegiate-best marks that were set or matched in every apparatus by King last Friday. King also won her first collegiate balance beam title and was runner-up in the vault, both with marks of 9.90. She turned in her third 9.90 of the evening in the uneven bars competition and matched her collegiate-best of 9.875 in the floor exercise.
In the last four meets, King has set or upped all of her collegiate-best marks a total of 12 times, which includes raising her all-around best three times. The 2008 Great Britain Olympian has won five of her six event titles in the last four meets and is ranked No. 19 in the nation in all-around (regional qualifying average: 39.275).
No. 4 Florida begins the championship portion of its season this Saturday. The Southeastern Conference Championships make its first appearance in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 27. Start time is set for 4 p.m. at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $8 for children.
