Saturday, March 27, 2010 | Men's Swimming & Diving
On the second day of the 2010 swimming and diving NCAA Championships, the current third-place Gators are set to return six championship swims, including five individual and one relay swim in the 200-yard medley relay. Additionally, the Gators will take to the water for timed finals of the 800-yard free relay. Freshman Sebastien Rousseau (Cape Town, South Africa) and sophomore Jeff Raymond (Davie, Fla.) will represent the Gators in consolation finals of the 400 IM and 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
Highlighting the day for the Orange and Blue, junior Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.), the 500-yard free national champion on day one of competition, qualified as the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle. The Gators return three 200 freestyle swims, including Dwyer, with junior Brett Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman) and senior brother Shaune Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman) claiming the third and sixth fastest times in morning preliminaries.
The Gators additionally had a strong showing in the 100-yard backstroke, led by senior Omar Pinzon (Bogota, Colombia) and freshman Marco Loughran (London, England), who claimed the sixth and eighth spots, respectively, to qualify in the top eight.
Florida's 400-yard medley relay started the day out right, led by Loughran, Pinzon, Dwyer and Brett Fraser, clocking a 1:25.71, to finish fourth in prelims and solidify a spot in the finale.
