University of Florida freshman Ashley Bruns was named the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week following her performance against St. Bonaventure, announced Monday by the league office.
A native of Ellicott City, Md., Bruns totaled five goals, two assists and two draw controls against the Bonnies. All five goals came in the first half, including three in the first 4:33 of the game to help the Gators jump out to a 4-1 lead. Both assists came before the break as well, giving UF a 15-8 lead at the half, one goal shy of their season-high for a game.
Florida beat St. Bonaventure 22-11 and improved to 3-1 on the season. Bruns leads the team with 12 goals and 10 assists on the season.
It is the second week in a row that a Florida student-athlete was named the ALC Rookie of the Week. Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.) was named Co-Rookie of the Week following her performance against La Salle and North Carolina.
Up next for Florida is a matchup with No. 5 Georgetown on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Lacrosse Stadium. Admission is free. The first 100 fans will receive a coupon for a free hot dog and soda.
