Tuesday, March 9, 2010 | Baseball
University of Florida sophomore Alex Panteliodis (Tampa, Fla.) was named to the Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll produced by CollegeBaseball360.com on Tuesday. The left-hander kept No. 10 Miami hitless into the fifth inning and registered a career-high eight strikeouts as the Gators claimed the series opener last Friday in Coral Gables.
Making his initial start of the season, Panteliodis (3-0) gave up two hits over 5.2 innings and was supported by an offense that plated four runs in the third and three in the eighth. Sophomore Nick Maronde (Lexington, Ky.) collected his first career save with seven strikeouts over 3.1 hitless and scoreless innings.
In three appearances this year, Panteliodis has notched three victories and registered a 1.93 earned run average. The southpaw has totaled 12 strikeouts, issued three walks and limited opponents to a .172 clip in 9.1 innings.
Panteliodis was part of CollegeBaseball360.com's third group of Primetime Performers for action during the first week of March. Florida State senior TCU shortstop Stephen Cardullo was named the Primetime Player of the Week, while Wright State senior right-hander Alex Kaminsky was the CB360 Primetime Pitcher of the Week.
The other 17 members of the CB360 Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll included Jacksonville State senior center fielder Daniel Adamson, East Tennessee State sophomore third baseman/right-hander Bo Reeder, Arkansas sophomore shortstop Tim Carver, St. Mary's sophomore designated hitter Troy Channing, Rice senior first baseman Jimmy Comerata, Clemson junior center fielder Chris Epps, St. Louis sophomore utility player Steve Fernandez, Houston sophomore right-hander Michael Goodnight, Texas sophomore right-hander Taylor Jungmann, Texas A&M junior right-hander Barret Loux, Arizona State sophomore shortstop Drew Maggi, Arizona freshman third baseman Seth Mejias-Brown, Cal junior right-hander Kevin Miller, UCSB senior catcher Marty Mullins, senior catcher Eddie Rodriguez, Alabama junior shortstop Josh Rutledge and Florida Gulf Coast junior left-hander Chris Sale.
The 20 honorees include seven pitchers (six of them RHPs), four center fielders, two shortstops, two catchers and a pair of utility players, plus a first baseman, third baseman and designated hitter. The selections feature eight sophomores, six seniors, five juniors and a freshmen – with four of the honorees hailing from the home state of Texas, plus three each from California and Florida, two each from Alabama and Arizona, and one each from Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Washington.
The CB360 Primetime Performer honors various players based on any/all of the following “primetime” criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
• Must have been playing for a CB360 top-50 team (in the Composite National Rankings) or against such a top-level opponent, or performed a high level in a game that could be key to a team's conference/NCAA postseason qualification.
• Involved in clutch performances, such as late game-winning hits, noteworthy comebacks, game-changing plays, team leadership, etc.
• Performing at a top level against a team rated highly nationally (or within its conference), with bonus consideration given for key performances away from home field.
• Overcoming adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
