Florida's A.J. Jones Named to Lott Trophy Watch List

UF linebacker A.J. Jones (Tampa, Fla.) has been named to the 2010 Lott Trophy Watch List, announced Thursday by Ronnie Lott and the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.
Jones, who is one of 42 student-athletes named to the watch list, has started 29 games in his career and finished the 2009 season with 37 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for losses. He also tallied three sacks and the first three interceptions of his career. His best game of 2009 came against Georgia, where Jones tallied five tackles (two solo), two for a loss of nine yards, whole also tallying a career-high two interceptions. He is a member of the Goodwill Gators who do volunteer work in the community.
“This is a superb list of young men,” said Lott as he announced the list. “We at the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation are always pleased to see the accomplishments of such outstanding student-athletes, all of whom are worthy of consideration for the Lott Trophy.”
Sponsored by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the award is given to the defensive player who exhibit's the same characteristics Lott embodied during his distinguished career: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Previous winners of the Lott Trophy include TCU's Jerry Hughes (2009), Ohio State's James Laurinaitis (2008), LSU's Glenn Dorsey (2007) and Dante Hughes of Cal (2006).
Voters for the award include selected members of the national media, previous finalists, members of the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation Board of Directors, the Legends Coaches and distinguished alumni of various schools around the nation.
