Carlos Dunlap Selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in NFL Draft
Saturday, April 24, 2010 | Football
Former UF defensive end Carlos Dunlap (North Charleston, S.C.) has become the fifth Gator selected in the 2010 NFL Draft, with the Cincinnati Bengals claiming UF's 2009 sack leader with the 22nd pick in the second round, 54th overall.
Florida has now had eight defensive linemen drafted in the last five NFL Drafts, dating back to the 2006 draft, the first for Florida that featured players who played under head coach Urban Meyer. That figure is currently tied for the top figure in the nation over that time span.
Florida has had five players selected in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft for the first time in school history.
Dunlap was picked with the selection immediately following fellow Florida defensive lineman Jermaine Cunningham.
Dunlap was named a 2009 first-team SEC by the Associated Press, the league's coaches and Sporting News. He reached the top 10 in school history with 19.5 career sacks in his three seasons at UF.
It marks the second time in four years that the Gators have had multiple defensive linemen drafted.
